Art Explorer Post 407 - What Are We About?

The Art Explorer Post 407 is an organization that is dedicated to giving young people ages 14 and up an opportunity to explore careers in the field of art. The group is affiliated with the the Learning for Life - Exploring organization, and is sponsored by the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD).

CCAD instructors, professional artists, parents and college students have joined together to guide and teach the members.

The mission of our post is to educate the members in various professional careers in the visual arts. Portfolio development is part of our emphasis towards collage and scholarship opportunities. Each member works on art projects each week, but in addition, we have many other programs we participate in, such as: field trips to local art exhibitions and shows, tours and lectures on CCAD campus, visiting artists that show their work and discuss their careers and special events such as guided tours of the studios at American Greetings in Cleveland, Ohio. We have spent weekends in Lancaster at Geneva Hills Retreat swimming, hiking, and observing nature and the Mohican wilderness with other Explorer Posts. We spent three days drawing, taking photographs, canoeing, horseback riding and of course, great times around the campfire.

Art Explorer Post 407 meets weekly at the Circle Hall on CCAD's campus. The address is 145 Grant Avenue, Columbus, Ohio. Our regular meetings are scheduled for Saturdays at 12:00 noon and last until 3:00 p.m. More information can be obtained by calling Alyssa Fry at 614-436-7200 ext. 234. Come and see what the Art Explorer Post can do for you.

Exploring

Exploring is a worksite-based program. It is part of Learning for Life's career education program for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years old.

Exploring's purpose is to provide experiences that help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Explorers are ready to investigate the meaning of interdependence in their personal relationships and communities.

Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Local community organizations initiate a specific Explorer post by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop.

Exploring programs are based on five areas of emphasis: career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education, and leadership experience.
